The Thai Life Assurance Association (TLAA) was formed in 1952 and registered on July 5th, 1956. It is a non-profit organization with the objectives to serve as a centre for all life insurance companies in the country, to promote friendly relations within the Life Insurance industry, to cooperate in solving life insurance-related problems, to conduct research, and to exchange ideas and experience among members of the industry.
Vision
TLAA is committed to promote member companies to be self-regulated and to act as a central body to develop and promote the life insurance industry. TLAA will promote professional efficiency, business growth and competitiveness among member companies.
Mission
TLAA is the central body of life insurance business operators and related professional groups in Thailand. It promotes the integration of ideas and acts on behalf of the business operators in coordinating with government agencies and related professional groups in order to ensure that they operate their business with responsibility and under an acceptable standard of good governance. TLAA also engages in following-up the development and improvement of rules and regulations in the midst of a changing business environment, as well as the creation of public awareness and understanding of the benefits of life insurance.
The TLAA provides life insurance education to member companies and the general public through the distribution of printed material, as well as newspapers, radio broadcasting and television. This is to ensure that the public has a better understanding of the needs for life insurance in their daily lives.
Structure
TLAA’s organizational structure consists of the Board of Directors, whose members serve a two-year term of office. The Board is chaired by the President, three Vice-Presidents, the Secretary-General and the Treasurer. Under the Board of Directors is an Executive Board comprised of permanent staff headed by the Director and three Assistant Directors.
Moreover, under these two Boards, there are 13 Sub-Committees whose members are representatives of TLAA member companies. Each Sub-Committee focuses on a specific area of business. Members of the TLAA Board also serve on numerous other committees, such as the Working Committee on the establishment of Complaints Unit Operations; and the Working Committee on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism.
Awards
TLAA is proud to be the recipient of two prestigious awards. In both 2006 and 2007, it was chosen from a large number of trade associations as the winner of the Outstanding Trade Association Award in a competition jointly organized by the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce and The Thai Chamber of Commerce. Contestants for this prestigious award were evaluated from four perspectives: mission effectiveness, performance efficiency, service quality, and organizational development.
In 2007, TLAA also won the Business Ethics Award from The Thai Chamber of Commerce. This award is granted annually to encourage business entities to recognize the importance of business ethics, which is something that Thai Life Assurance Association has always valued highly. The award is a testament to TLAA’s commitment to conducting its business with ethics and with responsibility towards Thai society.
